A larger picture might help.

if you have a flash light shine it on the area between the book lungs where the slit is 'blue area on this pic'

It's hard to get that bright a picture. Between my phone cam (which really isn't that bad) and the black abdomen I just dont capture what I see. I am new to the hobby and need to get a real camera for my T's. I'll see what I can do.

Thanks

Troll's right - if we were still using film cameras, we'd have shipping crates FULL of 'crap' pictures, and only enough 'good' pictures to half-fill a small photo album! Lighting is an issue with us as well - the picture either comes out too dark (no flash), or a great big white spot (flash). It's a juggling issue of trying to get the right angle for flash use, but the tarantulas aren't often amenable to posing 'just so'.

I'll try a couple more. After this it's either wait for molt or off to buy a quality camera. :)

As mentioned before by myself and Troll, using a scanner is a great way to get ventral images of very high resolution, if you have one. Just put a deli cup over the tarantula and lay a dark cloth over that.

As also mentioned, ventral sexing unless you have literally years of experience, can be a crap shoot. The only way to know is to look inside the exuvium.

Hello Lewis.

As I cannot see any spermathecae on the aformentioned picture, I'd say it's a male.
